2008 was a year of many awful, awful video games. It started off badly enough with Grand Theft Auto 4, but progressed so far from there that we have already forgotten the corruption that game represented. The New York Times even considered it the game of the year...
Here is a list of the games, off the top of my head, from 2008 in order from most corrupting to least.
The You Testament (
read about it here)
Saints Row 2
Grand Theft Auto 4
Doom 3
Gears of War 2
Dead Space
The Torture Game
Call of Duty 5 (why all the numbers? It's like porn films)
Resistance 2
Metal Gear Solid 4
...
World of Goo (a wonderful little game my son plays on his Wii)
I probably missed a game or two. Anyway, time for the grading:
The ESRB gets a B- for not really screwing things up this year, as far as we know
The companies get an F for all this trash they put out
Critics get an F for calling Grand Theft Auto their game of the year.
